Week of 12/15-12/19

Hello all,
This is the last week before the holiday break.
It is also the last week for grades just in case any student is missing work.
The students are doing awesome in class right now working on their PBL.
Don't forget Friday is early release.
Monday is Santa Hat Day
Tuesday Red and Green Day
Wednesday is Ugly Sweater Day
Thursday is Christmas Character Day
and Friday is Pajama Day

6th Grade Football

I just wanted to give a shout out to the 6th graders that played football on Saturday, 12-8-14 for the Championship.  I know it was a tough lost, but keep your heads up, it was a great game.

Rates and Ratios

Dear parents,
In class this pass week, students were learning rates and ratios which I'm sure some students went home to try and convince you to buy them a full year subscription to xbox live.  I would just like to say, I used that as an example, I am in no way trying to sell that to them or you. Just FYI, but maybe you can help by letting find the rates in a grocery store next time shopping.

Thanksgiving

Hopefully everyone had a great week off and a great holiday.

Last Week before Thanksgiving break

Just a reminder, this is the last week before Thanksgiving Break.
The students will be having a test on Thursday over Unit 2.
Then Friday they will have History Day.
Also, another reminder, missing work can still be turned in, and all other work can be redone for a higher grade.

Adding and Subtracting Integers

This past week we learned how to add integers and this upcoming week we will be subtracting integers.  A good way for the students to also learn is to talk about money with them.  Talk about positive and negative numbers with money to get an idea.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week was awesome.  It was great seeing all the students participate on each day.  And Friday Halloween was great, exciting costumes.

Looking forward for this week and how the students will take pride in wearing red Monday, disguise Tuesday, hook off, "camping or fishing gear" Wednesday, lei off, Hawaiian shirt Thursday, and my favorite, Scare away drugs Friday, wear a costume, but please make sure no masks, or make-up.

Fractions

Just letting you know what has been going on during class this week, and that is Multiplying Fractions, and we ended with Dividing Fractions. We will continue on Monday with dividing Fractions and quiz on Thursday.

Book Access

Parents,

Just a friendly reminder, each student has access to the book online at home and it has great extra help each student can use if they have trouble understanding.  The website is "my.hrw.com" and their login username is there lunch ID number followed by ljh. The password is Pirates1! which the students should all have the information if it has not reached you by now.

Tutoring

For the parents, tutoring is being offered by myself or with Mrs. Mask whenever I am unavailable.  Most of the tutoring will be done in the morning before school starts, and sometimes during their lunch hour.  All students are welcome to join for more practice, it never hurts to be proactive in math.

I had a great time watching a few of my students play football Saturday afternoon against Devine, good luck on the upcoming year.

Great Week

The students did an awesome job this week.  You would be proud of your child on how they want to take a quiz in math class.

Homework

Just an update on homework, students are getting homework, but sometimes they finish before the period ends so you don't see them take it home.  If you want for your child to take the work home, that is fine, they can even take it in their binder so that you can see all their progress of the classroom.
I hope this helps out a little.

Great week in class.  The students learned about integers= whole numbers and their opposites.

Dear Parents, 

I understand that some students had difficult with the assignment given, therefore instead of taking it up for a grade, we decided to review it together as a class on Friday.  No need to worry, I am working at my best to make sure our students succeed in learning.
